How to edit text and images in a PDF

Published 2026-08-31 · Tutorial

A contract has the wrong date, a brochure has an outdated photo and you need to fix both before sending. Here is how to edit the text and images inside a PDF without losing the quality, entirely in your browser.

Editing the text and images inside a PDF document

What editing a PDF really involves

Unlike a Word file, a PDF stores each page as a finished layout, which is what makes it print exactly the same everywhere. That stability is also what makes editing harder: the text and images are part of a single locked page. The practical approach is to pull the content out, change it, and rebuild the page cleanly.

Correct the text without retyping the page

The fastest way to change a number, a date or a whole sentence is to convert the PDF to editable text, make your corrections in any editor, then turn the result back into a clean document. You keep the words and their order while dropping only the presentation. For a single quick fix, copying the passage out, editing it and pasting it back often works in seconds.

Replace an image inside the document

When a photo, a logo or a diagram is outdated, grab the surrounding text, drop the old image out of the layout and place the new one in. Rebuild the page by merging the corrected text with the fresh image using Images to PDF, which assembles pages from mixed content in one tidy file. This keeps the document coherent without upstream software.

Handle scanned pages with OCR

If your PDF comes from a scanner, its words are pixels, not editable text. You cannot correct a sentence directly until you turn those pixels back into text with OCR. Follow the OCR basics walkthrough to unlock the content, then apply the same edit, convert and rebuild loop above.

Keep the file light after editing

Replaced photos can quickly inflate the file size. After you finish, run the edited document through compress a PDF to bring it back to a reasonable size for email and upload. The result is a corrected, clean and lightweight PDF, ready to send.
